Buy from US Black Friday Sales and Ship to India: The 2026 Guide

How to shop US Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales from India: getting past checkout declines, what duty and IGST add on arrival, and timing your order.

To buy from US Black Friday sales and ship to India, have the order delivered to a US address (our Austin hub), then forward it on by FedEx Express. Black Friday falls on November 27 this year and Cyber Monday on November 30. India charges duty and IGST on arrival, starting from the first rupee, so work out the landed price before you decide the deal is worth it.

How to shop US Black Friday sales from India

You can come at it two ways, depending on whether you've already paid:

  1. The store won't take your card or won't ship abroad. Send us the product link and Personal Shopping buys it on a US card, at the sale price, during the sale.
  2. You've already checked out to a US address. Package Forwarding receives the box at your Shipbird address, repacks it and sends it on to India.

Both routes end up at the same hub, go through the same inspection and ship on the same discounted FedEx Express service. If you're not sure why your card keeps failing on US sites, the India shipping guide explains the OTP and international-transaction settings behind most of those declines.

Run the landed-cost math before you add to cart

This step matters more for India than for most corridors we ship to. Personal-use goods sent by courier are taxed under a single heading (9804): 10% basic customs duty, a 10% surcharge on that duty, then 18% IGST on top. Altogether that's roughly 30% of the CIF value, meaning the item plus shipping and insurance. There's no value-based duty-free threshold for goods you've bought, so even a small order gets assessed.

So a Black Friday price only wins if this adds up in its favour:

  • the US sale price, plus any US sales tax the retailer charges
  • the Personal Shopping fee, if we're buying it for you
  • FedEx freight from Austin
  • roughly 30% of item-plus-freight, paid to Indian customs on arrival

Compare that total with what the same item costs in India during the festive season. Sometimes the US deal wins clearly. Sometimes the Indian price is already close enough that shipping it across the world doesn't make sense, and it's worth knowing that before the doorbuster sells out.

The Personal Shopping fee is one flat fee per order, not a percentage of your cart and never charged per item: $15 up to $99.99, $25 from $100 to $250, $40 from $250.01 to $1,000, then $50 flat over $1,000. A $180 pair of headphones lands in the $100–$250 tier, so the fee is a flat $25. A $1,200 laptop is in the top tier, which is a flat $50.

Diwali presents are still purchases

A lot of November orders into India are presents for family. That's fine, but customs doesn't care who the box is for. Under DGFT rules you can't buy goods and send them by courier as gifts outside a few narrow categories, and a paid order counts as a purchase. Declare it as one, at the price you actually paid, sale price included. Calling it a gift or trimming the value won't lower the bill. It gets the parcel held instead, and in late November a hold can cost you more time than you have.

Whoever receives the parcel will also have to complete courier KYC with one ID: Aadhaar, passport, PAN or voter ID. Have it ready so clearance isn't waiting on a document.

Consolidate the haul, and let us shrink the boxes

Black Friday shoppers rarely buy just one thing. If you're ordering from three or four US stores that week, have everything come to your Shipbird address and ship it to India as one parcel. Separate shipments each pay their own freight, and because duty is charged on the freight too, you'd also be paying duty on more freight than you need to. The consolidation guide walks through how that works.

Holiday packaging makes this worse. Retail boxes are built to look good on a shelf, and FedEx bills by dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 139, in inches) whenever that's higher than what the box actually weighs. We strip out the air before anything leaves Austin, which matters more on a sale-week haul than at any other time of year.

Timing: order early in the sale

Two things are true every year. The best deals sell out in hours, and US carriers are dealing with their own holiday volume while your order is still travelling to Austin. If an item has to land in India by a specific date, buy on Black Friday itself rather than waiting for Cyber Monday. The domestic leg to our hub is the part nobody can speed up.

Once your box leaves the hub, FedEx Express is quick. The less predictable part is Indian customs clearance, which depends on the item category and how clean the paperwork is. Check prohibited items if anything in your cart has large lithium batteries or falls into a regulated category.
